In short: hotel AI visibility comes down to one question: does ChatGPT suggest your hotel or guesthouse when travellers ask where to stay? To know, ask it the questions travellers really ask (area, budget, length of stay, purpose of the trip), without your name, and note who is suggested and which pages are cited. Repeat every few weeks. Then fix what keeps you out: room pages without prices, an unclear location, details that differ from one listing to another, and no reviews. Amaso AI runs those checks from WordPress and shows what to fix; nobody can promise you a place in the answer.
Why does it matter where travellers ask?
A traveller planning a trip to Kigali, Nairobi or Accra no longer only scrolls through booking sites. Many type one long question into an assistant: “a quiet guesthouse near the convention centre for four nights, under $70, with good wifi”. The answer names two or three places and links to a few sources. If your place is not one of them, that traveller may never see your website.
Assistants build that answer from what they can read: your website, your Google Business Profile, booking platforms, travel blogs and reviews. A place that is clear and consistent across those sources is easier to suggest.
Which questions should a hotel or guesthouse track?
Write ten to fifteen questions in the words of your guests, without your name. Mix these patterns:
- Area: “where to stay in Kimihurura”, “hotel near the airport in Kigali”.
- Budget: “affordable apartment in Kigali under $50 a night”.
- Purpose: “hotel for a business trip with a meeting room”, “family guesthouse with parking”.
- Length of stay: “furnished apartment for one month in Kigali”.
- Language: the same questions in French if your guests come from French-speaking countries.
Keep the list fixed. Changing the questions every time makes the results impossible to compare.
How do I read the answers?
For each question, note three things: whether your place is named, which places are named instead, and which websites the assistant cited. The third point is often the most useful. If the cited sources are a travel blog, a booking platform and a competitor’s room page, you know where to be present and what kind of page wins.
You can do this by hand with the method in our guide How to check whether ChatGPT cites your WordPress site. If your website runs on WordPress, Amaso AI asks your questions to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity with your own API key, keeps the opening of every answer and lists the websites the assistants consulted. The free Amaso AI Free runs checks on demand; scheduled checks and alerts start at $35.99 a year.
What should I fix on my website first?
- One page per room type, with the price or the price range, the number of guests, the bed, the bathroom and the main amenities written in text, not only in photos.
- Your location in words. The neighbourhood, landmarks nearby, the distance to the airport or the city centre, and a map.
- How to book and pay. Say plainly how a guest books (form, WhatsApp, booking platform) and which payment methods you accept, including Mobile Money.
- Your policies. Check-in and check-out times, cancellation, children, long stays. These are exactly the details travellers ask an assistant about.
- Structured data. LocalBusiness data with your name, address, phone and hours tells machines the same facts your page tells people. Amaso AI adds it to your homepage once your address is in the business profile, and its Locations screen adds each property, with phone and opening hours, on its own page. Our JSON-LD guide explains the basics.
- The same details everywhere. Name, address, phone number and description identical on your website, your Google Business Profile and every listing.
Where else should my place be listed?
Assistants trust what several independent sources agree on. Besides the big booking platforms, local listings with real, checked information help. In Kigali, Hodi, the conversational travel concierge built by FOSIA, the company behind Amaso AI, lists places for free: a person checks each place before it goes live, the traveller pays the host directly by Mobile Money, and a commission applies only on stays booked through Hodi. Hosts can list their place in a conversation.
Reviews matter too. Ask satisfied guests to describe their stay in their own words on the platforms they use. Never buy or write reviews yourself.
What should a hotel not expect?
- A guaranteed place in the answer: the AI companies decide what their assistants say.
- The same answer every day: wording, location and the model change the result.
- Bookings from citations alone: watch the enquiries that follow, not only the citations.
Frequently asked questions
Is a listing on a booking platform enough?
It helps, because assistants often cite booking platforms. But your own website is the one source you fully control: it is where your rooms, prices and policies should be complete and up to date.
Does Amaso AI track Google’s AI Overviews for hotels?
No. Amaso AI checks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity. Check Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode by hand.
Should I publish my prices?
Yes, at least a “from” price per room type. Travellers ask assistants about budget first, and an assistant cannot suggest a place whose price it cannot find.
Can someone do the work for me?
Yes. Our team and our partner agency Vatam can check how assistants see your place and make the fixes, starting with a free consultation. See AI visibility, done for you.
